What is the difference between polyether polyurethane and polyester

Polyurethane is divided into two categories: polyester polyurethane and polyether polyurethane. Polyester type is a polyurethane prepared from diisocyanate and hydroxyl terminated polyester as raw materials. Polyether type polyurethane is a polyurethane prepared from diisocyanate and hydroxyl terminated polyether as raw materials.

The difference between polyether type polyurethane and polyurethane is that polyether type polyurethane is mainly defined for the polyols used in the preparation of polyurethane materials, that is, the polyols used in the preparation of polyurethane are entirely composed of polyether type polyols or occupy the majority of the system. In the molecular structure of polyether polyol, the cohesion energy of ether bond is low and it is easy to rotate, so the polyurethane material prepared by it has good low-temperature flexibility and excellent hydrolysis resistance. Although its mechanical properties are not as good as polyester polyurethane, the viscosity of the raw material system is low, and it is easily miscible with isocyanate, additives and other components, with excellent processing performance.

In general, the molecular weight distribution of polyester Thermoplastic polyurethane is wider than that of polyether Thermoplastic polyurethane, and the processing temperature is higher. (Polyester polyurethane has better heat resistance than polyether polyurethane)
