Description

TBG Oil Seal: Rubber-Covered Double-Lip Rotary Shaft SealTBG oil seal cross section showing rubber covered OD, metal case, garter spring main lip and axial dust lip

The TBG oil seal is a rotary shaft seal with a fully rubber-covered outer diameter. Inside the ring, a stamped metal case with a reinforcing plate keeps the seal rigid. The design also carries a main lip with a garter spring and an extra axial dust lip. As a result, the seal holds oil and grease in, and keeps dust, mud and water splash out.

In practice, this double protection solves a common problem. Standard single-lip seals fail quickly when grit reaches the lip. The TBG oil seal blocks that grit at the front face, so the spring-loaded main lip keeps working in clean oil. For this reason, maintenance intervals become longer and unplanned downtime drops.

Why Choose TBG Oil Seal Design?

A rubber-covered body gives three practical advantages over a plain metal-case seal. First, the rubber skin seals against the housing bore, so minor surface finish and tolerance differences do not cause leakage. Second, it absorbs vibration and small misalignment. Third, it protects the metal insert from rust in humid or chemically aggressive plants.

Moreover, the garter spring keeps a constant radial load on the shaft. Wear therefore stays low even at higher surface speeds. In addition, the secondary axial lip scrapes contamination away before it reaches the main lip. In dusty, muddy or wash-down areas, this single feature often doubles service life.

Construction and Design Features

  • Metal case with reinforcing plate. A stamped steel skeleton holds the ring shape and keeps installation depth accurate.
  • Fully rubber-covered OD. The rubber covering seals the bore, compensates for housing imperfections and prevents rust seize.
  • Main lip with garter spring. Even radial force gives reliable sealing of oil, grease and hydraulic fluid with low friction loss.
  • Extra axial dust lip. The secondary lip excludes dust, dirt and water splash, so the primary lip stays clean.
  • NBR as standard. Nitrile rubber resists mineral oils, greases and hydraulic fluids over a wide temperature range.
  • Optional compounds. FKM, HNBR and EPDM grades are available for heat, abrasion or chemical duty.

Where TBG Oil Seal Is Used

Engineers fit the TBG oil seal wherever a rotating shaft meets a contaminated environment. Typical duties include:

  • Automotive engines, gearboxes, differentials and wheel hubs
  • Hydraulic pumps, motors and gear drives
  • Electric motors, fans, blowers and water pumps
  • Agricultural, construction and mining machinery working in dust and mud
  • Food and packaging lines that need frequent wash-down
  • Machine tools and gear reducers with oil splash lubrication

For example, a wheel hub on a loader runs in mud all day. A single-lip seal pulls grit into the lip and starts leaking within weeks. The TBG oil seal scrapes the mud off first, so the main lip seals clean oil for a full season.

Size Range and Custom Options

We supply the TBG oil seal for shaft diameters from a few millimetres up to several hundred millimetres. Common cross-sections are 7, 8, 9, 10, 12 and 13 mm. Non-standard sizes, special compounds and custom lip geometry are all possible. Therefore, please send the shaft diameter, housing bore and width, and we will confirm the nearest standard size or open a drawing. Besides, OEM and ODM projects are welcome at any stage.

TBG vs TC Oil Seal

Both profiles share the same body: rubber-covered OD, metal reinforcing case and a spring-loaded main lip. The difference is the extra axial face lip on the TBG oil seal, which works as a built-in dust shield. For a shaft running in a clean oil bath, a standard TC seal is enough. Where dust, water splash or outside contamination is present, the double-lip version clearly lasts longer.

Related profiles are available in our hydraulic wiper seals range, which uses the same dust-scraping principle for rod applications. Therefore, choose by environment rather than by price. The small extra cost of the dust lip usually pays back within the first service interval. If you are unsure, our engineers will review your application and recommend the right profile.
